Bryan Utech was born and raised in Central Wisconsin. Growing up in a household with two hard working parents, he developed a hunger to succeed at an early age. He spent his younger years skateboarding, listening to heavy metal, and dreaming about one day opening a sneaker shop.
After graduating from college, Utech packed up his bags and moved to New York City to pursue a career in the music industry. After short stints at APA Artist Booking and RPM Studios, Utech's luck ran out. He had run out of money and was forced to pack up. He returned to Wisconsin, but headed to Milwaukee this time. With only thirty dollars in his pocket, Utech worked odd jobs. In his spare time, he started what would be his first business venture, Curve Factory Entertainment. Utech quickly made a name for himself, establishing CFE as one of the première talent agencies in Wisconsin. He would later team up with friends in the business to create a powerhouse entertainment co-op. Together they worked to further the success of Milwaukee's local heroes, Citizen King and Chicago's super group, the Cupcakes. While teaming on the co-op, Utech continued to run CFE.
It was during this time Utech got his first taste of being out on tour, visiting Citizen King as they toured through Ohio. Utech became determined to hit the road and start touring himself. His break came in 2000 when Signatures Network of San Francisco offered him the chance to tour with Kid Rock. Utech dropped everything and caught the next flight out. Over the next four years, Utech would travel the world honing his skills, tour managing and running merchandise sales for some of the biggest musical talents in the business, such as Nickelback, Linkin Park, and the Strokes.
In 2003, after returning home from tour with Metallica and Linkin Park, Utech was offered a job with BandMerch in Los Angeles. It was an opportunity he could not turn down. He once again packed up his belongings and made the trip out west. Utech enjoyed his desk job at BandMerch, but the lure of being back on the road was just too strong. He left BandMerch and soon after was once again spending his days and nights traveling. In 2004, Utech was asked to sell merchandise on "The Quannum World Tour." It was on this tour that Utech would cross paths with DJ Shadow. Shortly after the tour had end, Utech was approached by DJ Shadow to move to the Bay and become part of the DJ Shadow team. Utech jumped at the chance to relocate and without a second thought, packed up and drove north.
It didn’t take Utech long to get to work. Settling in as the eCommerce manager of ShopDJShadow.com, he immediately contacted renowned street artist Shepard Fairey. Together with DJ Shadow, the team created the “Public Works” line of products. The line featured a limited edition box set including Shepard Fairey’s book “Post No Bills,” five collaborative t-shirts, a CD of new music from DJ Shadow and various stickers and buttons. The line was later expanded with prints, track jackets and additional t-shirt designs. Utech also worked closely with LRG Clothing to produce exclusive DJ Shadow collaborative items for Shadow's "Outsider" tour. It was through these experiences that Utech developed his love for urban art and streetwear. Later that year, Adidas contacted him about organizing a large event to celebrate the opening of their new heritage store in Berkeley, CA. The event featured an art show, live music, food and drinks. It went off as planned and was a great success.
In the fall of 2007, Utech would part ways with DJ Shadow and return to the company where it all began, Signatures Network. He would oversee over forty artists on-line stores, working with the likes of The Beatles, Velvet Revolver, Slash, and Tommy Lee. The summer of 2007 brought a turn in Utech’s life personal life when he married his lovely wife Michelle, bought a house in Oakland, and adopted two Chihuahuas, Pickle and Peanut. It was also during this period when Utech left Signatures to once again step out on his own, starting the development of Utech Industries.
Today, Utech continues to live in Oakland, CA and develop his company.
